There can be times in your life when you need some help to take stock in your career and make the next step.
You may feel that you could do more, or something different.
You might have been made redundant and are wondering where to start.
Or you may be thinking about setting up your own business and need some help to think it through.
Career coaching can help you in the following ways:
- Take stock of how you got to where you are today
- Look at your strengths and the things at work which motivate you
- Look at your interests, values and options
- Help you set meaningful objectives to help you get what you want
A career coach will help you by:
- Asking questions which will help you reflect and think
- Providing helpful exercises to help you understand yourself and what you really want
- Providing hints and tips if you need practical help with researching new options
- Providing help with CVs, job search techniques and interview skills if you need them
It is important to also think about what coaching is NOT:
- Therapy or counselling. Although career coaching will look at how your work fits into your life overall, it is not concerned with relationships or deeper ‘life’ issues.
- Career coaching will only help you identify your ideal career future: the rest is down to you!
Career coaching is usually carried out over a series of meetings, where the first would be face-to-face and the rest usually by telephone. We would usually suggest an initial course of 3 meetings. Telephone and e-mail support would be available between meetings.
